I like the colorful "looseness" theme for the new sketchbook. Loose is always good, of course, and also is super-forgiving of any "mistakes" you think you make (which the viewer would never guess, of course). Give yourself the gift of loose for the rather tight winter months.
Your attempts to winterize remind me of the Danish concept of "hygge" for getting through their long, cold season. I wrote about it a few years ago for a friend's travel blog, and she just reposted it, because it's that time of year again, I guess: https://www.moretimetotravel.com/who-can-resist-hygge/
Wonderful article! A few years ago I was doing research for an "Unplug Live Slow" idea and took out all the books I could find on hygge. It was a lovely, cozy time. :)
When hygge was a new thing (to me) and I originally wrote that article in 2017, I see that I inserted the phrase "for a sharply divided country that could really use a little calm and comfort." Or maybe my friend put that in there for her 2025 repost. Either way, it's true!
Such a nice leaf photo! and pumpkin, etc! Thank you for sharing. I've also slowed down a bit on painting in the last few weeks. I started reading a novel, but I want to keep doing art projects, probably at a more relaxed winter pace like you're suggesting. I want to do some loose things and collage mixtures. Experimenting for fun. Now I finally have glue sticks so I can be in business!
Last year I was drinking a lot of hot water with lemon, ginger, and honey after my friend told me she just drinks hot tea in winter to stay warm from the inside out.
It feels a little sad to do less art and painting, but also probably what our bodies need! And thanks for the lemon/ginger/honey idea. I'm creating a tea station and those will be added! Do you put in raw ginger root? How much?
I still plan to bring my paint supplies to Thanksgiving - hoping you will too? I may also bring the ukulele. ^_^
I will share more about the sketch book project we're doing right now! I think you'd like it. It's a small booklet made from ripped paper, which immediately gives it a much looser feeling. I also just bought a variety of glues and hope to do more collaging in this next book. Good luck with your upcoming projects! Share what you're up to.

This is inspiring me to winterize and add more hygge!
Let me know what you end up doing if anything!

Yes, I chop up a small amount of ginger root and add it in. You can adjust the ratio to your liking.
Ok, I'll bring my paint supplies. It would be nice if we get to do some painting. Yes, bring the ukelele!
Looking forward to hearing about the ripped paper book project!
